Move over hunk. The sexy male physique just had a new definition and it has nothing to do with muscle definitions! According to Mackenzie Pearson, a Clemson University sophomore who started it all via her piece on the student website The Odyssey, girls are going crazy over dad bods — or guys with chunky physique. She described the dad bod built as “a nice balance between a beer gut and working out.” The term has since became a sizzling social media topic and the toast of beer-bellied men everywhere.
But hold your horses. Having a protruding belly does not necessarily makes a guy a dad bod material. As Pearson explains, the dad bod says, ‘I go to the gym occasionally, but I also drink heavily on the weekends and enjoy eating eight slices of pizza at a time.'” In short, the term applies to a man whose body is neither fat nor thin, but somewhere in-between. Quite a difficult feat to achieve, if you ask me.
If you couldn’t quite imagine how a dad bod looks like, Leonardo DiCaprio would be your best example. This guy doesn’t have ripped abs and chunky biceps and can even be called slightly-out-of-shape by Hollywood standards but still gets to date supermodels. But then again he is Leo. He can be as big as an elephant and women will still push themselves to him.
While many welcomed the new found recognition of this body type, there are those who see having a dad bod as an excuse to be lazy and to lead unhealthy lives. Gym rats mostly and we understand where they are coming from. Working their asses out only to get measly likes on their after-gym selfies while the dad bods who do nothing and eat everything get more love. Life is unfair.
